  1. Are students required to purchase a meal plan?
      Yes, but only if you are residing on campus.
  2. Are you required to bring a computer or have a computer for class?
      Students are not required to bring a computer or have a computer for class. However, many students do bring one. There are several computer labs throughout the campus, as well as, in the residence halls. Thus, if you don’t have computer, you’ll have access to several on campus.
  3. Can a freshman have a car on campus?
      Students are allowed to have cars on campus. There is a required parking fee and the decals can be picked up from the Public Safety Office.
  4. Can I be admitted if I don’t meet your minimum requirements?
      All students denied admission have the right of an appeal. Appeal letters should be sent to the Associate Academic Dean at GSW.
  5. Can I do an overnight visit?
      You can do an overnight visit. We need 10 days advance notice and we will confirm your overnight stay. Overnights are only allowed while school is in session, either in the Fall or Spring term and only between Mon-Thurs.
  6. Can you get my transcripts or do I have to do it?
      You have to request your own High School or College(s) to send official transcripts. They are to be sent to the Office of Admissions, Georgia Southwestern State University, 800 Wheatley St., Americus, GA 31709.
  7. Do I have to live on campus if I’m a freshman?
      All freshman who are not commuting from home, are required to live on campus.
  8. Do I need to submit an essay?
      No
  9. Do you have a Nursing Program.
      We have a four year BSN program. If you are admitted to GSW, you will be assigned a Nursing advisor for your pre-nursing academic courses. The School of Nursing will notify you of your formal admission into the BSN program upon completing their application and your successful completion of the pre-nursing sequence of courses and recommendation from your advisor.
  10. Do you have an ROTC program?
      We do not have ROTC program.
  11. Does GSW offer a tutorial program?
      Yes, you can receive assistance through our Academic Skills Center.

  15. How do I get a transcript from GSW?
      Transcripts must be requested in writing to the Registrar's Office at least 24 hours in advance. Requests must include student&qt;s full name, social security number, an estimate of the dates attended, address or fax number where the transcript is to be sent, signature, and appropriate fee. Transcript Request forms can be printed from R.A.I.N. or completed at the Registrar's Office, Sanford Hall, Room 210.   16. How long does it take to find out an admissions decision?
      Most students usually find out within two weeks from the time we have received all appropriate credentials. You can check your admission status for completing the application process by going to our homepage www.gsw.edu click on RAIN in the lower left corner and then open the drop down box and click on “Admissions status”.

  19. If I have a disability and need accommodations, who should I contact?
      You should contact the Student Support Services office at (229) 931-2294. You may visit their website at http://www.gsw.edu/services/sss to obtain more information.
  20. Is the TOEFL required for international applicants?
      Yes, the minimum required score is 193 computer test or 524 paper test. Students not meeting this requirement are offered the option to attend our English Language Institute.

      The University is open from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday for normal business. Public Safety is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, including holidays.
  24. What are your requirements to get into GSW ?
      If you are a senior about to graduate, you will need all of these as minimums: SATV=430, SATM=400, HSGPA in CPC courses of 2.0 (C). If you took the ACT rather than the SAT, you’ll need ACTE=18 and ACTM=17. Our most recent entering class in the Fall Of 2002 had an average profile of SATV=509, SATM=504, HSGPA=3.23.

  32. When must an academic major be declared?
      Usually, depending on your major by the beginning of your junior year. If you choose after that time you may be adding another semester or year onto the initial fours years to obtain your degree.

      The University is located on 255 acres of wooded land in the community of Americus, GA, 135 miles south of Atlanta. The attractive campus includes recreational areas, a spring-fed lake, and thirty-five buildings.
  38. Will the college accept the General Education Diploma (GED)?
      Yes, but you need to have been out of high school for at least five years from the time you would have graduated.
